(VIDEO) Porcelain Dinnerware

22.01.2016

One of the eternal synonyms for luxury and quality is dinnerware made of porcelain. Porcelain originated in China, and many centuries later its production started in the rest of world. Except being very suitable for serving food, it is also used for decoration in dining rooms and kitchens.

From the technical point of view, porcelain is made from kaolin, feldspat, quartz and clay. Further treatment removes all impure substances, which gives porcelain a snow white color, making it look clean and attractive. The Chinese invented the porcelain manufacturing technique as long ago as 17th century BC. To Europe it was brought by Marco Polo in 14th century AD, and it didn't take long before it became a thing of prestige among the nobility and wealthy families started competing in acquiring beautiful pieces. Hence, it is no wonder porcelain was called "white gold" in that period!

Industrial development in 19th century made porcelain popular among middle class, because it made it affordable to almost everyone. Like then, like now - the price of porcelain has been dependent on its quality and decoration. Without a skilled hand of a craftsman or an artist, a piece of porcelain can hardly look good.

In our retail center on Stari Aerodrom, we filmed a short story on porcelain dinnerware.
