(VIDEO) All You Need to Know about Generators

10.11.2015

You own a holiday home in a remote place, that is not a part of the electric power distribution system? Or you are often - be it for work or pleasure - spending time in nature: in the woods, in the mountains, nearby rivers or lakes, where standard sources of electricity are not available? You need a generator! - and you need one of those that are smaller and mobile, with 1 to 10 kW of power.

Next to these, there are stationary generators, featuring great power - from 20 kW to 1 MW. They are installed on buildings and serve as their back-up power supply in cases of blackout. They are connected to the distribution system, together with the equipment (commonly known as "the automatics"), that regulates starting and flow of energy towards consumers.

When it comes to households, in terms of safety, our best advice would be to use inverter generators. Operating on principles of electronic inversion, they deliver perfectly straight energy, which makes them suitable for sensitive electronic devices. They usually come in small dimensions, mobile and silent.

In order to choose generator properly, you must pay attention to the type and power of the devices that it will supply with energy. While insufficiently powerful generators can irretrievably harm your electric devices, those whose power is bigger than necessary can not - thus, when buying, you should always choose the model that is bigger and more powerful.

Generators use either petrol or diesel fuel.

If you plan on using the generator for more than 2-3 hours without breaks, we recommend water-cooled models, which are capable of running for up to 24 hours as back-up power supply source.

It goes without saying that all generators must be maintained regularly, following producers' instructions (changing oils and filters, etc.).

In the video below our colleague will tell you all you need to know about generators and how to handle them. Our offer of generators can be seen here.
